Foster of the Week: Lovey

Lovey Howell

Hi, do you mind if I sit next to you?

I’ll be no bother, I’d just like to sit and observe the world. You can pet me if you like, I’d love that. Or we can just sit. I’d like that too.

I’m Lovey.

People say my name suits me perfectly because I’m sweet, quiet and calm. And because I really love to be pet. I could sit next to a human for hours as long as the pets keep coming. (I’ll nudge you if you stop, so just keeping petting…)

I am working on being an indoor dog. It’s kind of a tough adjustment, let me say. I was terrified when I first got to my foster home. It was new and strange, there were these things called stairs, so many smells….. I didn’t know if this new place would be good or scary. I’m still reserved and unsure at times, but this place is pretty good. It’s warm and comfortable and there is always food. My foster mom is so patient with me, I’ve grown to love and trust her a lot. She let me take my time getting into the house (and I took a really long time), she worked with me on those stair things, she taught me how to walk on a leash and she’s given me time to relax and open up – a work still in progress. She loves me exactly how I am and I really love that.

I have a crate in my foster home, I like it a lot. If I am feeling scared or nervous, I just go into my crate. It makes me feel safe. Sometimes I’ll hang out in my crate with a bone just because. I do enjoy a good bone! I like to run and sometimes I feel inclined to play with the dogs in my foster home, but I do like to take my time warming up to the ideas. I think I would like a dog sibling in my forever home; I’d like a friend to help my confidence grow.

That’s what I’ve been working on lately: my confidence. A patient and experienced forever home is a must for me so that I can continue to grow into a balanced lady. I will repay your patience with love and loyalty times ten.

I’ve really enjoyed sitting next to you. Maybe we should make this a forever thing?

Foster of the Week: Lucy Lu

HIIIIIIIIIIIII!!!! I’M LUCY!!!

It is soooooo good to meet you! Do you want go for a run? Play? Wrestle? Snuggle? Chew on some toys? Fetch? Take a nap?

What should we doooooooo????????

Everything?!?!?!

You know, I wasn’t always this happy. I used to be so shy and nervous, scared of everything. I had a home, things were good, but then one day I found myself in a crate in this strange woman’s house. She was very nice, if not a little goofy, and I was sure she meant no harm, but everything was strange and scary. She kept her distance, but kept offering food until my fear softened, which was actually my stomach growling, and I finally decided to venture out of my crate.

Guess what happened then!?!?!?

She had MORE FOOD!! And OTHER DOGS who I could play with. And leashes for WALKS!!!!

Guys, it was SO AWESOME!!!!

I was still scared, but the goofy lady of love was very patient and, well, loving. Then I got moved again. And I was scared again. Less scared than before, but still nervous. Again the people were so patient and kind and now? I HAVE THE BEST LIFE EVER!!

I have a Boston Terrier BFF who is AWESOME! We play and wrestle all the time. (Sometimes I accidentally fall off the bed when we are wrestling… Oops!) We are superstar nappers too. Uh huh. And I get to go to dog daycare. Do you know how many friends I have there? OVER FORTY! There are toys and pools and so much space to run. There are even comfy beds and tons of snuggle buds to choose from. It’s the best! Then I get to go home with my people and wiggle in nice and tight for more snuggles. There’s always room for Lucy!

It really doesn’t get any better. I am always happy; my tail is always wagging, bum always shaking. I love this new life with my whole heart.

I guess there is one way my life could be better: A forever home.

People who will love me as much as I can love them: madly and deeply. People who will understand that I can be shy and timid in new situations, but if you can be patient with me, I can learn to trust you. And people with another dog, because I can’t imagine life without canine siblings.

Read my bio, apply to adopt me! Let’s meet!

Hi, I’m Cheese! Colby Cheese.

Where’s your car? You DO have a car, right? Good. Let’s go for a ride!

Ahhhh…. I love the wind in ears! This is the life, I tell ya!!

I’m originally from Niagara Falls, what a fun little town! And now I’m here in Alberta. I’ve been all over this province, but I think it’s time I settle down.

I’ve settled into a great routine in my foster home.

My day starts bright and early when my foster dad wakes up. He comes to get my foster sister and me, then we go upstairs for a 45 minute snooze on the bed with my foster mom. I wait for my foster dad to tell me it’s ok to jump up on the bed, then I give my foster mom a quick kiss and settle in for a nap. She never sleeps long enough, but getting up with her means a walk and FOOOOOOD.

I start every day with a short walk. I keep hoping we’ll go for a car ride instead, but nope. Always a walk. My hound nose loves to sniff EVERYTHING. EVERY. THING. There are SO many smells out there! My foster mom doesn’t mind, but sometimes my nose gets carried away and she has to remind me that we are walking, not sniffing. I am very considerate of my foster mom and always do my business beside a garbage can. It’s the gentlemanly thing to do.

After my walk, it’s time for breakfast!!! My foster mom likes me to sit nicely until she serves breakfast. It’s SO hard when I’m SO hungry, but I try with all my might. After I gobble up my breakfast, I go upstairs to see who’s still sleeping. I crawl into bed with one of the kids and sleep until they get up. The girls take me on another short walk before lunch, then I spend the afternoon hanging out, being a dude. I love laying in the grass or sprawling out on the lounge chair for an afternoon siesta. I laze until dinner time. Food is my jam!

Evenings are for my people, I love my people almost as much as I love food. We go for an evening walk, then lay on the couch until bed time. I follow whoever goes up to bed first and snuggle with them until it’s time to go to my bed for the night. Sometimes my foster parents are too lazy to argue with me about going to my bed, my puppy eyes are extremely hard to resist, so I get to sleep in their bed with them. WINNING!!

It’s a great life with my foster family, they are so good to me. But, as much as I love living here, I am ready to find a forever home. One without cats!! That’s pretty much my only request. Cats flick my ‘Hunt Mode’ switch with a quickness! I’m happy with adults and kids and I don’t mind other dogs. I would like a home where my people are home more than they are away. And where there are lots and lots of treats! And a car. My life would be so sad without car rides.

So whaddya say? Check out my bio, apply to adopt me, and make me your passenger seat pal!

Foster of the Week: Morgan Freeman

*Bump*

Oh, pardon me…

*Bump*

Oops! Excuse me!

*Bump*

*Sniff, sniff*

Hmm….you smell human. Listen, I’ve got an itch right behind my ear. Would you mind?

Ahhhh….. That’s better, thank you.

Hi! I’m Morgan! Sit down beside me and let’s play a game. I’ll tell you three things about me and you have to guess which one is a lie.

  1. I’m 10 years old.
  2. Famous actor Morgan Freeman was named after me.
  3. I’m blind.

Can you guess which one isn’t true? I know, I know. Too easy, right? I just wanted you to sit beside me and pet me. Now that you’re here, there’s no sense in getting up. Let’s chat.

I’m looking for a forever home. I had a family but they weren’t able to properly care for me, so Zoe’s took me in. I took a little time to adjust in my foster home, being blind makes new environments a little nerve-wracking, but nothing keeps me down for long! I’m always smiling!  As long as I have a patient human by my side…

I went to Kause for Paws at Koch Ford on the weekend. It was a little much, not gonna lie…. I don’t really like big open spaces, they’re very hard for me to navigate. But once we settled inside where people registered, I was able to relax. The best part was all the people; a solid five hours of love, cuddles and scratches. That’s the good life….

Bark on the street is that senior dogs have a hard time getting adopted. I don’t understand that at all. Senior dogs are the best!!

No offence to puppies, they are pretty cute, but us older dogs are so much easier. We don’t ask for much: love, food and a comfy spot to lay our heads. At least that’s all I’m looking for. That and a home where I can be close by my people at all times. Being alone for too long makes me restless and I start to investigate things I probably shouldn’t. Like the kitchen counters…. In my defence, I don’t exactly know it’s the kitchen counters I’m surfing. It’s not like I can see that I’m in the kitchen. Wink, wink….

My age and vision impairment don’t hold me back at all. I hope it won’t hold you back from applying to adopt me!

Foster of the Week: Chance

chanc

Hi friend! I’m Chance!

This is my second visit to Casa Zoe’s. Unfortunately some ‘circumstances‘ changed for my former family and they couldn’t keep me. I’m not sure what ‘circumstances’ means, but here I am! Ready to find another family!

The good people of Zoe’s thought I should tell you about myself. They say anyone who knows me falls in love with me, that pretty much means the only reason YOU don’t love me is because you don’t know me. So let’s get to know your blonde beau!

First, the not so great bit….

I’m leash reactive.

There. I said it.

Nobody is perfect right? I saw this quote once: “To conquer your flaws, you must first accept them.” I have accepted and am already working on the conquering. Zoe’s put me up at a kennel where I will work with a trainer who will help me learn how to stay calm and be ok with other leashed dogs when I am on my leash. My adoptive family must continue this training with me. Not only is it vital to my well-being to conquer this leash reactivity, training together will help us bond. I’m a smart guy, I already know basic commands very well and I am eager to learn more. If we both commit to this training, I know I can shake my fears.

Now all the good bits…..

I am full of energy and love to play! Playing with toys, playing with dog pals, playing in the water….. Playing in the water with dog pals and toys….. That’s almost TOO much fun!! I also love jogging. My last foster mom and I used to jog 10 km, she said I was the perfect running buddy. I stayed in front, kept a good pace and steady energy the whole way. I’ve got energy for days!! I dream of an acreage with a pond and dog pals (like my last foster home) so that I have lots of room to run and play. And a family. A high energy family who will walk or run with me every day and play with me outside too.

I like to make my people happy, always keeping eye contact and listening when doing my tricks. I’ve learned sit, stay, paw, lie down, and play dead. I’m also great with kids, older ones who have good dog manners. Sometimes I need a little personal space, so I’m best around little people who can understand that. And, despite my issues with dogs and leashes, I really love dogs! My favourite thing to do in my foster home was playing in the pond with my foster brother. In case the repeated mention of ponds didn’t translate: I LOVE WATER! My foster mom could barely keep me out of the pond.

Leash reactivity and mandatory training can be intimidating, but I am a great guy in so many ways. If you give me a ‘chance’ and spend some time training with me, I know I will make you proud.

Let’s meet! Check out my bio and apply to adopt me!
