Brave Dave | Male | Retriever X |
Rescue Story:
I was rescued in the NWT where I was found tied up with a rope deeply embedded in my neck, so badly that it damaged my trachea. When I was a puppy, someone put a rope on me and never loosened it. A youth in the community knew I needed help and untied me. Eventually I was brought to the NWT SPCA where the Great Slave Animal Hospital staff did an amazing job helping me recover.

Critter Twitter:
I’m smart and eager to learn. When I’m having fun learning I wag my tail really fast and sometimes I even sneeze! I love my toys, playing with my foster dog sister, and like to work for my meals. I know: Sit/Down/Stay/Come/Place(bed)/Drop it/Take it and am working on my leash skills. I also love playing fetch, and going for walks or a good run (it’s WAY better than being tied up). A large play area or farm would be a perfect home for me!
About my Behaviour:
Dave needs an experienced owner who has the patience, willingness and time to help him learn to trust people though positive reinforcement. Because he spent much of his early life tied up, he is still learning that he doesn’t need to fear people and other animals. His foster home is working with an applied dog behavior consultant to help him make good choices. He gives lots of signs when he is feeling afraid.
How’s my Health?
Dave is neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated. He has no known health issues or concerns.
